Standard sending units generally generate variable resistance signals. To guarantee correct measurements, system engineers must align sensor ohms with gauge inputs. Standard commercial systems rely on the US industry curve (240–33 ohms) or the European curve (0–190 ohms). In older setups or niche machinery, legacy configurations like 0–90 ohms (such as GM style) or inverted systems are still common.
As custom designers, our engineering lab programs custom resistance curves. This capability allows us to configure gauges for unusual geometries (like tapered or step-welded fuel cells). The custom firmware converts non-linear sensor readouts into linear volume outputs on the LCD displays, which solves the common issue of non-linear reading jumps.
Fluid sloshing inside fuel tanks presents a challenge for dynamic level measurement. Without dampening, acceleration, braking, or cornering causes gauges to jump rapidly, which can lead to low-level alarms or incorrect readings.
Our current designs use adjustable software dampening inside our LCD processors. By calculating moving averages of the incoming sender signals over periods ranging from 5 to 30 seconds, our displays show a stable average value. This digital dampening removes noise from movement while maintaining responsiveness for refuel events.
